Pi Datacenters plans to invest $58.3m on its greenfield data centre in India

Data centre provider Pi Datacenters has announced that it has established its Pi-Kochi data centre facility in Infopark in Kerala, India.

The company revealed that it will be investing $58.3m (Rs 400 crore) into the project which will help cater to the digitalisation of the nation, creating an offering for IT infrastructure needs across public and private sectors.

The company revealed that the Pi-Kochi data centre project would facilitate the direct employment of up to 300 qualified professionals, as well as promote indirect employment of over 1,000 individuals, in Kerala.

Kerala is a state on India’s tropical Malabar Coast, and has nearly 600km of Arabian Sea shoreline.

The New Indian Express reported that the greenfield data centre campus is being set up in Infopark Phase 2 in six acres of land, according to Kalyan Muppaneni, founder and CEO, Pi Datacenters.

In 2017, the Indian data centre sector was predicted to nearly double in size by 2019 when revenues will hit $2bn up from 2016’s $1.3bn.

Fast forward to the present, $4bn is the value that the India data centre market is estimated to reach by the year 2024; growing at CAGR of around 9% during 2018-2024.

India is the second-largest market for data centre infrastructure and second-fastest-growing market in Asia/Pacific after China.

Elsewhere, in February, Infrastructure conglomerate Adani Group joined forced with the Government of Andhra Pradesh, signing a Memorandum of Understanding to build data centre parks in and around Visakhapatnam City in India.

The GoAP and Adani Group have revealed that it will develop the hyperscale data centre market in the state, positioning AP as the east coast data centre hub for India and South East Asia.

It will also be integrated with a cable landing station that will take advantage of the state’s long coastline to help provide the needed global connectivity and redundancy that the country needs to manage its exponential growth of data.
