OVH just formed a WHOLE new executive board with Silicon Valley heavyweights

French provider shows no fear and has raised the bar on its US game with the creation of a wholly-owned subsidiary to drive business in the region.

OVH’s desire to disrupt the North American cloud market has driven the company to set up a US business arm led by some of Silicon Valley’s brightest minds with experience gained at Oracle, RBC Capital Markets, eBay, GoDaddy and more.

To lead OVH US, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the France-based OVH Group, the company has appointed Russell P. Reeder as president and CEO of the new organisation.

The rest of the executive team counts with Dean Gels as chief financial officer and member of the US board, Brian Kuhn as chief digital officer, and Scott Brown as senior vice president engineering and operations.

The new US team will establish offices in Reston, Va., dubbed the Silicon Valley of the East, Vint Hill, Va., and Hillsboro, Ore.

Speaking to Data Economy, Reeder said: “Businesses are continuing to shift their workloads to the cloud at an amazing rate. If you are a business that needs high performance at a reasonable price, your options are limited – especially if you are looking for a cloud hosting partner with global scale.

“OVH will continue to leverage our deep industry experience and proprietary green data centre technology to offer better solutions at a better price. While many companies are looking to scale globally, OVH is already a well-established partner.

“We are now bringing our rapid global expansion to the US market and will enable our US customers to take advantage of our new local and existing global scale.”

Reeder also explained the need to set up a US branch for OVH based on the growing cloud ecosystem in the country.

He said: “The US market is 58% of the global cloud hosting market and over the next two years we will continue to see a dramatic shift to the cloud. Today companies host about 41% of their workloads in the cloud and we will see that number grow to approximately 66% in in the next two years.

“The US will experience the fastest and largest market share growth. OVH US is a separate operating company that is wholly owned by OVH Group based in France. This way, US companies have a US firm that they can go to for local support, but with the advantage of global scale.”

To date, OVH owns 26 data centres across four continents, thousands of miles of dark fiber, which deliver a capacity of 10+ Tbps, and 32 points of presence worldwide.

The company has in 2015 announced a five-year investment plan worth €1.5bn to build more than ten data centres as it expands its footprint across Europe, APAC and North America.

In North America, the company has recently announced its third data centre which at full capacity will be able to host 80,000 servers.

The hub located in Hillsboro, Oregon, joins two others in Vint Hill, Virginia, and Beauharnois, Quebec, in Canada.

Octave Klaba, CEO and chairman of the board of OVH Group, said: “OVH US will challenge what businesses believe to be the industry norm for cloud services, and exceed their expectations for value.”
