Global Cloud Xchange ups expansion ambitions with new global MD
Organisation promotes European president to global role as business enters new era of growth, CEO Bill Barney says.
Global Cloud Xchange (GCX) has ramped up its efforts to drive growth and expansion of its brand globally by appointing Mark Russell as Managing Director of GCX International.
The GCX is a subsidiary of Reliance Communications and works within a network that includes five subsea cable systems, a 14-country-wide terrestrial network, a managed network services platform that connected over 25,000 sites in 160 countries, and more.
With the recent appointment of Russell as its new MD, GCX expects now to grow that footprint.
Russell has been tasked with overseeing global sales across all segments, ensuring that all GCX regions are strategically aligned and tracking towards new growth and development.
The executive, which already serves and will continue to serve as president of Europe for the GCX, is also going to focus on building the company’s capabilities as well as driving organic and inorganic growth across GCX’s European footprint.
Bill Barney, CEO, Reliance Communications and Global Cloud Xchange, who has also recently been awarded the ‘Data Centre Industry Achievement Award 2017’ by Datacloud Asia, said: “Over the past year, Mark has demonstrated strong leadership and commitment in growing our European business to new heights.
“We are confident that in his expanded role, Mark will lead our global business into a new era of strategic growth and expansion.”
Russell has more than 25 years of telecom and technology experience having joined the GCX in 2015 as president of Europe.
He was previously at NetApp where he assisted with the global accounts based out of London, where he oversaw the doubled revenues in his first year and achieved top vendor award from HSBC.
Prior to NetApp, he served as vice president of global sales and acting CEO for Empower Interactive, a UK-based software company that provided messaging solutions to the mobile industry.
Russell has also spent eight years in senior sales management roles at MCI (now Verizon Business). He has also served ten years in sales leadership positions with Cable & Wireless.
