Equinix and IBM partner to expand cloud services in Brazil
Customers are to gain access to IoT and Watson capabilities as the regional market continues to grow.
Equinix and IBM have joined forces to grow Brazil’s cloud scene by making IBM’s Bluemix available on Equinix’s Cloud Exchange through the operator’s data centres.
Tomaz Oliveira, VP of IBM Cloud Brazil, said: “The direct connection to our services gives enterprises access to our Bluemix cloud with an alternative to traditional internet by using a secure and fast fibre optic connection.
“In addition, this partnership with Equinix opens new doors to IBM to reach out to new markets and organisations of all sizes across the country.
“The presence of a local Bluemix infrastructure allows us to offer even more efficient services by being closer to our customers.”
The partnership in Brazil follows Equinix and IBM’s arrangements in 12 other markets where the service is already available.
The availability of Bluemix in the Equinix cloud ecosystem gives access to all the applications available in the platform, including the ones launched by IBM in recent years around the internet of things and Watson APIs.
Rodrigo Guerrero, sales director at Equinix Brazil, said: “We are very happy to expand our partnership [with IBM] to Brazil and offer our clients direct access to one of the main cloud providers on Earth.”
Equinix operates six data centres in Brazil, two in Rio de Janeiro and four in São Paulo, servicing more than 1,500 customers.
The combined square footage of all facilities ascends to 190,000 sqf, representing one of the largest data centre footprints currently in operation in South America.
