enet’s investment programme sees new Dublin network connecting 11 data centres
Dublin, Ireland – enet, Ireland’s largest open access network operator, has announced significant expansion with the launch of new fibre infrastructure in Dublin’s central business district and surrounding areas.
The project is the latest investment undertaken by enet and its parent Granahan McCourt Capital, bringing total investment to over €100 million since 2013.
The continued investment is expanding enet’s geographical reach and operations that complement the Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs) which it already manages on behalf of the Irish State.
The enet Dublin network, which is now live and fully operational, includes over 100 km of high-capacity-fibre-count cabling, as well as duct, sub-duct and over 300 chambers.
This significant expansion of the network offers the carrier community a unique and diverse duct route through Dublin City avoiding legacy infrastructure.
In addition, the enet network has a major presence along the M50 corridor, IFSC, Donnybrook, Clonshaugh, Parkwest, Citywest and already facilitates access to a minimum of 11 carrier neutral data centres, as well as five proprietary carrier facilities.
Announcing the expansion, Conal Henry, enet CEO, said: “The new Dublin network is further evidence of enet’s commitment to build on our strong position in the wholesale telecoms market, providing the carrier community with the most extensive and cost-effective network solutions possible. This marks the first time that enet has managed infrastructure in Dublin and underlines our substantial potential to further expand in Ireland.”
enet is Ireland’s largest wholesale only carrier with offices in Limerick and Dublin. The company provides world class, open-access connectivity solutions to every major telecommunications carrier. These carriers use the enet network for enterprise, residential and core network solutions that are transforming Ireland’s digital landscape.
The company operates the second largest fibre network in Ireland incorporating 94 Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs) operated on behalf of the Irish Government, as well as a unique dark fibre backhaul infrastructure transiting the rail and gas network and three proprietary metro networks including an 100km fibre ring in Dublin.
enet also operates one of the largest licensed wireless networks in the country. Taken together, the fibre and wireless infrastructure creates a fully integrated, nationwide network which is truly open access in nature, and enables carrier to deliver world class bandwidth services to their customers throughout Ireland.
The company is committed to the development of the regions in Ireland through encouraging the open delivery of affordable, state of the art broadband services, and is currently shortlisted for the Irish Government’s National Broadband Plan.
