EDF Energy Services pledges 260kMW renewable energy for Digital Realty’s Texas data centres

Dallas, Texas

EDF Energy Services has said it will assist Digital Realty (NYSE: DLR) in meeting its environmental and sustainability goals across its portfolio of data centres in the Dallas, Texas region.

As Digital Realty’s retail electricity supplier in ERCOT, EDF Energy Services is coordinating the delivery and supply of 260,000MW hours of renewable energy annually, over a period of seven and a half years.

The contract will supply 30% of the company’s electricity needs in this market. EDF Energy Services will also provide renewable energy credits as required over that time frame, according to the company.

The renewable energy is being generated by Bearkat Wind Energy II LLC’s project in Glasscock County, Texas, which will serve a portion of the power needed to operate Digital Realty’s 13 data centres in the Greater Dallas area.

“Our mission is to make it easier for businesses to achieve their efficiency and sustainability goals,” said EDF Energy Services President Mary Anne Brelinsky.

“We are excited to offer a renewable wind energy solution that allows Digital Realty to provide their customers with green power for their data centres, and to make progress on achieving their environmental goals.”

“We’re dedicated to supporting our customers with sustainable, highly resilient facilities that leverage renewable energy and other energy-efficient technologies.

“We’re proud to be partnering with EDF Energy Services to bring clean, renewable energy to our customers in Dallas and we look forward to furthering our sustainability strategies with customers across the region and around the world.”

EDF Energy Services will begin making this renewable energy available to Digital Realty’s customers starting in June 2021.
