The deal aims to deliver cheaper and faster connectivity across Germany and provide Datacenter One clients with direct interconnectivity with global networks.

Internet exchange DE-CIX has signed a deal with Datacenter One to link the data centre operator’s facilities with its Frankfurt exchange. DE-CIX’s global interconnectivity services will be available at Datacenter One’s sites in Leverkusen, Dusseldorf and Stuttgart.

As a first step, the Datacenter One data centre LEV1 in Leverkusen will be connected to DE-CIX. The aim of the partnership, said DE-CIX, is to meet the strong demand for fast and low-cost interconnection services in additional German regions.

All of the Datacenter One locations will be “DE-CIX Enabled Sites”. As a colocation partner, Datacenter One will provide the data centre infrastructure, while DE-CIX will operate its own network infrastructure and take care of the management and marketing of the respective DE-CIX location.

“We want to be as close to our customers as possible, which is why regional centres like Dusseldorf, Leverkusen or Stuttgart are growing in importance for us,” said Thomas King, chief technology officer at DE-CIX. “Expansion into additional cities is a logical step. Our new site in Leverkusen will supply the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region and further branches are already in the implementation phase.”

Wolfgang Kaufmann, managing director of Datacenter One, said: “Our LEV1 data centre is one of the most modern and energy-efficient data centres in Europe. DE-CIX will benefit from our exceptional infrastructure and the collaboration will enable us to offer our tenants additional added value – direct access to DE-CIX.”

DE-CIX operates internet exchanges in 18 metropolitan regions worldwide, including an expanding presense in India.
