So, let’s have a look how the data economy looks like in early 2012. Who are the players and what are their business models? What areas are they covering and what are the services they provide around the product data? What metadata is available for searching and filtering datasets?

In this post we will try to establish a baseline: identifying all the relevant players. In follow-up posts we will discuss business models and features in greater details.

Where did you get this from? As input I will use Marin Dimitrov’s slide-set on data marketplaces, everything I was able to find on Twitter under datamarket, Stefano Bertolo’s bookmarks collection on delicious as well as the question Is there a GitHub for data? on Quora. Further I found Paul Miller’s podcasts on data markets and data marketplaces over at his blog ‘The Cloud of Data’ very useful and inspirational.
